Kakoperato cave

The Monastery Zoodochos Pigi and a cave that will challenge Your potential vertigo.

According to Google Translate Kako perato is greek for “bad latter”. My wife was quite happy to learn this after visiting the cave and the small chapel build inside it. The access was via a rather bad latter but still accessible for anyone without vertigo.

I have lot of respect for the people who carried all the building materials to this unaccessible cave.

The cave is accessed via a track starting below the small monastery of Zoodochos Pigi on the north-east side of the Kerkis mountain.

The track clings to the side of the gorge that reaches to ocean between Karlovassi and Drakei. Luckily dedicated Samians have put up blue railings along the track, providing a secure way to the cave.
